  • There is such a thing as a specific type of cardio for your body type.

Long Slice:

It’s that time of year. Time for my annual run. What’s an annual run you might ask? It’s basically the one time of the year I decided to go running outdoors. As you can probably tell, the word “annual” being the giveaway, I don't run outdoors very much.

In the past, I used to run outside pretty often, for example, when I was training for the New York City Marathon I was running outside frequently. Other times I’d run outside occurred during college, maybe to clear my head of stress or if I found some spare time. But, for the most part, I now do the majority of my runs inside the gym.

RUNNING IS NOT THE END ALL BE ALL FOR CARDIO

Running, as you guys may have heard, is actually not the best form of exercise when it comes to keeping your weight down. Too much cardio and too much running can actually mess with your hormones. For instance, it can boost your cortisol which stores fat and lower your testosterone, which is designed to build fat-fighting hormones. It’s important to know that there are many other ways to achieve your cardio workout; you want to make sure that you do not overdo running. Personally, I keep my cardio to a minimum, if I choose to do it outdoors, my go-to workout is rollerblading.

Each individual has a type of cardio exercise that is right for them and it can be really beneficial for your training program to figure that out.

WHAT IS THE RIGHT TYPE OF CARDIO FOR MY BODY TYPE?

Yes, you read that right. There IS a right type of cardio for your body type. Determining your cardio type is based on factors like the body type that you have and how much weight you are looking to lose. One person may fall into a high-intensity interval training while another may need to work their cardio at a steady state. Either way, there is a type of cardio exercise that will suit your body and your goals.
